A Little Background... And honesty

Tomorrow is the start of my last month of my 20's. And you know, being this close to 30 made me realize a few things:

1. I'm not afraid of 30 anymore. It's just a number. I still act like I'm 18. So no worries there.
2. I'm comfortable with my personality, interests, etc. I'm a geek, deal with it. If people can't accept that, then screw 'em
3. I have a job I love that values me as a person as well as does great things in the community
4. My social life is great. I'm comfortable with friends. I'm comfortable being single for once as well.
5. I'm fat.

Okay, that last one may sound harsh. But it's true.

I'm just finally able to say it aloud and admit it to people.

But here's the kicker. Once I openly admitted it, I realized it's time to do something about it.

Three weeks ago there was a work competition about getting in shape and losing weight. Make a team of 4 people and see who loses the most weight/percentile in 3 months. Sweet, right?

I work for a great company that actually really cares about the people and offers us service to help out with anything in our personal life. There is a health and wellness coach that travels between stores and helps us out with what we need. We met, we took measurements, made a game plan. And thus started my journey of getting rid of number 5 on the list.

So where am I going with this scatterbrained first post?

I felt the need to start documenting publically what I'm going through. The ups, downs, and honest truths.

Three weeks in... and things are looking up.

At 5'11'' I was the following...

My Initial Measurements:
Weight: 334lbs
Waist: 50 in
Hips: 57in
BMI: 42

3 weeks later:
Weight: 325 lbs
Waist: 48in
Hips: 55in
BMI: 41

And those numbers made me feel GOOD!  Dear God, It's working!

What am I doing even?

1. Controlling everything that goes in my mouth. I am following Weight Watchers points system to a T. I eat my points every day, all of them (That's super important.) I add fruits and veggies, which I've always loved, to every meal. I stopped eating out (unless the calorie counts are listed, and then it's usually a salad... which I love!) I do this thing where I pack all of my food for the day into a bag. I can't eat it unless it comes out of the bag. When it's empty, I'm done. And satisfied. And still get to have treats!

2. The Gym is my second home: I go 4 times a week for an hour plus. I like working out. I always loved playing sports and everything.. I don't know why I got away from it. And now, I look forward to going there and really focusing on my body. I put on great tunes, I block out the world and walk... or bike... or use the elliptical (ellipticate?) I'm starting to add in weights now too. It feels... good!

3. ACCOUNTABILITY!!! I'm doing it. And telling others about it. So when they ask me, I can say what I'm honestly doing. And driving for results. And sharing those results. Annoyingly probably. But the thing is, is that I've got so many people in my corner that I'm super motivated.

4. Long term REALISTIC goals: I've made goals. like far out ones. What I want my final weight to be. Scheduled to RUN a 5k in the fall (gotta ease into it because of previous injuries), want to do a triathlon with my siblings in the summer of 2015. Half Marathon in the fall of 2015. And I know that I will never be a skinny minny. I inherited my father's big bone structure. And know that I'll never be below a size 12... nor do I want to be. I'm super tall and structurally built bigger. And I like some curves. I just want to be healthier.

SO there it is world! Breathe it all in. I'll keep updating weekly... more often if I have the time. I'll let you know where I am, what my results are. I'll update the weight often, and the measurements about once a month when I see my wellness coach.

So yeah. Start date of March 3rd. End date.. one year? Here's hoping!

Stay strong!
